TL;DR Guy selling car on ebay doesn't know what he has, refuses to believe he's wrong. Billy Madison reference.
So, as I usually do, I recently found myself looking at classic cars on the internet. E-Bay, in this case. I happened upon a really clean looking BMW E12 528i in texas !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
When I went to read the vehicle description, I saw the following:
Note where I've highlighted the specifically mentioned M5 wheels. Wait a second, that's not what I thought I saw...
Those are 330 sport wheels. Hmm. "Maybe he just doesn't realize", I said to myself. "I'll just write him a quick note." This is what happened:
I then received this as a reply:
That's it. It was time to exercise the caps lock button, aka cruise control for cool.
Good riddance.

So he thinks he has this, and now refuses to consider anything else. The stupid has reached a point of no return, and nothing you can do can stop it.

I just wish there were an easy way to flag an ebay ad.
On CL, I'm "that guy," who tries to get false claims taken down. There was a guy trying to sell a '98 528i M PACKAGE for weeks. It was a standard car with ebay head/tail lights in eggplant purple. I doubt it ever went anywhere. His ads never lasted more than a few hours.

Those aren't M5 wheels either! Those are 97-99 540i Sport wheels.
I'm such a geek.

You should have known he was full of shit when he described a beige 528 with a wonky fog light as a "head-turner." Cool car, but exactly zero people are even flinching their necks to get a glance at this thing on the road.

Well, since all you need for something to be genuine M is a sticker, I guess this "M7" is legit too! I'm putting mine on ebay for $200k since it's the only one...in the wooooorld

I'm a bit torn here. On one hand, I say the guy is a lost cause and ignore his ignorance. While on the other hand, I'm thinking that we unleash the wrath of the Opponauts and make him regret challenging one of our own. It's been a stressful week at the office and releasing my frustrations on this clown would make me feel better. Maybe I'll just go to the range instead.

What do you shoot? I just picked up a Bursa UC9 TP. Been real smooth so far.

Pretty sure I've seen`M5s with these wheels on, but I don't look at enough of them to be 100%.

Maybe as a winter wheel?

I wonder if this is a spare tire wheel for the cars or something. It came up in an OEM parts search as M5 - standard and 5-series - optional. Did the M5 come with a donut? Or a spare tire at all?

I have a lightly modded Glock 23. A bare bones 1911 that I plan to do some custom work on. A couple of Ruger 10/22's that I planned on turning into tack drivers but with completely different ergonomics and a Beretta Neos. Getting back into the world of car payments has really slowed down my plans with the guns. I hardly shoot and have not made ANY gun mods over the last 2 years.

Likewise. I can't wait.

Yeah, well, in the mean time, the auction is up to $5,400 with 3 days left.

M5s had such unique sizes that every dealer was required to keep one front and one rear size in stock at all times. The wheels pictured are from the 540i with M Sport package. M5 wheels are included below.

It's like they took the two sports tires and welded them together.......but it would explain why they look so familiar.

While we're all waiting for a response, check out this $70,000 3-series I just built on the configurator.
